Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional, and even internally, the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its age and nature, i.e. an ephemeral s/back and Complimentary copy. It is only the minor exterior fault described that prevents a slightly higher grading. Despite that,it really is still an exceptional example and copy for its cleanliness, brightness and appearance. A scarce item. Long overdue, here now is the first full history of what was once the greatest of the Three Towns - Devonport. With an intriguing blend of contemporary voices and images, from the 17th to the 21st century, Chris Robinson paints an absorbomg and illuminating portrait of a garrison town and naval base,of a commercial and entertainment centre and of a proud community that grew up 'behind the lines' and one that today stands on the threshold of a new future.
